What Is Elastizell
Elastizell concrete is usually a mixture of cement, water, and preformed foam. Designs using fly ash, sand, and other materials may be included for specific densities and strengths. Elastizell cellular concrete may be designed for densities ranging from 20 to 120 pcf. These concretes are usually pumped into place and finished before setting.
Elastizell preformed foam is created by diluting one part Elastizell concentrate with 40 parts water. This solution passes through a specially designed foam nozzle and combines with pressurized air which expands the solution to produce a foam with the appearance of shaving cream.
A predetermined amount of preformed foam is added to a concrete slurry or grout while mixing to produce cellular concrete. The foam volume controls the density of the concrete through the creation of stable air cells within the concrete mixture. The air cells are coated with cement paste, which upon setting results in a discrete cell structure. Elastizell concentrate is made to resist the physical and chemical forces imposed during mixing, pumping, and placing. Versatile
Elastizell roof insulation may be installed over pre-cast or cast-in-place concrete, as well as galvanized (G-60 or G-90) steel decks. EPS insulation board increases R-values and reduces dead load, with system weights as low as 8 to 9 psf.
Re-Roofability and New Construction
Elastizell roof decks encapsulate EPS board within the system. The EPS board is bonded to the deck in new construction or to the existing deck in re-roofing appli- cations. When combined with EPS insulation, Elastizell roof decks provide a solid base for roofing membranes with custom slope-to-drain capability. The EPS insulation is protected within the system for permanent long-term thermal resistance (LTTR).
Speed
Roofing may begin when the Elastizell roof deck can withstand foot traffic – typically 2 or 3 days after the deck is cast. The Elastizell roof deck should not be left exposed for longer than 5 to 7 days, especially in dry climates. Crazing or cracking of the surface of the deck is not detrimental to the roofing system.
Permanent
Elastizell roof decks completely encapsulate the EPS insulation board within the system. When re-roofing, only the membrane needs to be replaced.
Positive Drainage
Elastizell roof decks provide positive drainage in new construction and re-roofing applications. Positive drainage patterns are achieved by combining a stair-stepped EPS insulation board with custom sloping of the Elastizell low-density insulating concrete over the EPS board.
Fire Ratings/Non-Combustible
Elastizell roof decks have numerous fire ratings. These assemblies are non-combustible and do not require fireproofing of the underside of the steel deck or a thermal barrier that is necessary with rigid board systems. The flutes of the metal deck are filled, eliminating the fire channel.
Excellent Wind Uplift
Elastizell roof decks perform as an air retarder, providing excellent wind uplift performance. It bonds the EPS board to the structural deck, filling depressions and deck flutes. Elastizell roof decks have numerous UL and FM wind uplift ratings.
Constructability
Flat decks are simpler to design and easier to construct than sloped structures. Installation of HVAC components is easier with a flat deck structure. Elastizell roof decks provide a positive slope-to-drain system over flat decks, and are less expensive and time-consuming than sloped rigid insulation board systems.
