FOAM AND FOAM NOZZLE CALIBRATION METHODS
File: Calibration Methods (10/2003)
Have a container of known volume.
a) Weigh the empty drum (Weight empty)
b) Fill the drum to top with water and weigh (Weight full)
c) Volume of drum = (Weight full) - (Weight empty)/62.4 = _cubic ft.
Dilute ELASTIZELL at 40:1 in water.
Note operating pressure (80–100 psi).
With nozzle operating properly, time the filling of the container with foam, being careful to fill uniformly with no open voids. Fill over the top of the container and record this time (Overfill Time).
Weigh the overfilled container and record (Overfill Weight).
Screed the foam level with the top of the container, weigh and record (Level Weight).
Proceed to data reduction.
Data Reduction:
- Level time = Level Weight / Overfill Weight × Overfill Time
- Determine average Level Weight and Level Time for a number of trials
- Foam Rate = Container Volume / Level Time
- Water (#/min) = Level Weight / Level Time
- Air Volume = (Container Volume - (Level Weight / 62.4)) / Level Time
- Density of foam = Level Weight / Container Volume
- Nozzle Rate = Container Volume / Level Time
- Foam Volume / Air Volume = #3#5 = factor x Air Volume = foam needed
- Expansion Ratio = (Container Volume × 62.4) / Level Weight
